FAQs
About EthicSure
EthicSure is an Australian ethical auditing standard for modern slavery risk management. It gives buyers independent, site-verified evidence of how workers are treated across Australian supply chains, and gives suppliers a credible way to demonstrate responsible employment practices.
EthicSure was created to provide buyers with verified evidence of how workers are treated and to give suppliers a credible way to demonstrate responsible employment practices through independent audits.
EthicSure is designed for businesses across the Australian retail supply chain, including growers, farm businesses, meat and food processors, aged care, healthcare, manufacturers, packers, logistics providers, retailers and brands seeking trusted labour assurance.
EthicSure is built specifically for Australian businesses. It focuses on Australian legal requirements while incorporating internationally recognised labour standards where additional worker protections are required or expected by major retailers.
Businesses are increasingly expected to explain the actions they take to identify, assess and address labour exploitation and modern slavery risks. Independent verification can provide stronger evidence than self-reporting alone.
Audits and Certification
No. EthicSure develops and governs the standard. Audits are conducted independently by approved Certification Bodies using APSCA-certified auditors.
EthicSure audits assess compliance with the EthicSure Standard, which covers six areas: business legitimacy and record integrity; forced and bonded labour; terms of employment, wages and working hours; discrimination, harassment and freedom of association; health, safety and accommodation; and labour hire management, recruitment fees, entitlement to work, underage labour and subcontracting.
Yes. Where labour hire workers, subcontractors, outworkers or on-site contractors perform work within the Audit Scope, they are included in the assessment of labour-related risks and workplace practices.
Verified means a Site has completed the EthicSure self-assessment process and met the requirements for Verified status. Certified means a Site has successfully completed an independent audit and demonstrated conformity with the EthicSure Standard.
Non-Conformances are managed through a defined remediation process. Sites are provided with timeframes to address findings and have access to appeal processes where applicable.
Yes. EthicSure provides a formal process for requesting a review of audit findings, certification decisions and other matters covered by the Scheme Rules. Appeals and disputes are managed in accordance with the Scheme Rules and applicable policies.
